Les cerises is an editorial project conceived by Angelika Burtscher, Agnese and Cecilia Canziani and Daniele Lupo: a collection of silent books, published in limited edition, commissioned to artists, designers, architects that are invited for the first time to make a children’s book.
We believe that children are better able to engage with images than adults: the artists we collaborate with are not asked to adapt their work, but to present their own language and artistic vision to a special audience, establishing a relationship of trust between the creator, the reader and the publisher.
Each title in the series has a different format and uses different materials, and is designed in collaboration with the authors, so as to give the reader the opportunity to engage with signs, colours, imagery and forms that are all distinct from one another.
The books leave question marks and blank spaces to be filled in. We organise educational workshops for different age groups: after reading, the story ‘steps off’ the page and the child becomes the author of a new tale to be brought to life with glue and scissors, with colours and various materials, through storytelling or through movement.
