Martina Steckholzer is a painter who lives and works in Vienna. She finds inspiration for her images in museum collections, which she then translates into large-format paintings and small-format watercolors. In this process, the artist weaves together what she has seen and experienced, creating new contexts and narratives. For Les Cerises, the artist painted 60 different memory cards, embracing the imperfections of nature. She breathes new life into every animal in the Vienna Natural History Museum’s collection through the use of color, water, and her brushstrokes, thereby capturing the diverse nuances of the animal world.
